seen a fatberg?
These things are a huge pain - cities spend billions just trying to clear them out.
Hello, Max here!
Welcome to this not-so-nerdy (but kinda nerdy) newsletter!
How tired are you of clogged sewers? |
What if i tell you Engineers from RMIT University have invented a protective coating for concrete pipes that could help drastically reduce the formation of fatbergs in sewers?
Wait, fatbergs?
Okay, so you know how all that grease and oil from cooking eventually ends up in the sewers? It turns into these massive, nasty clumps called fatbergs - especially when mixed with things like ‘flushable’ wipes (which aren’t truly flushable… I mean, they flush - but so does anything smaller than a shoe, they just don’t disintegrate)…
These things are a huge pain - cities spend billions just trying to clear them out.
The Solution? A Super-Smart Coating
Think of it like a non-stick pan but for sewer pipes. This new zinc coating:
Stops 80% of the gunk from sticking
Can repair itself (like your skin when you get a scratch!)
Handles super-hot temperatures
The Best Part?
It actually works! When they tested it, pipes with the coating had 30% less buildup than regular ones. Plus, unlike the old solutions, it doesn't make things worse (which was a problem before🤦♀️).
The team's already working on making it even better, plus they're developing special grease traps for restaurants.
I’m a towering structure, built layer by layer,
Stretched to the sky, defying air.
I’m built strong and tall, yet need support below,
A feat of engineering with the wind’s ebb and flow.
Am I: |
I traverse the surface, yet work beneath,
Clearing the ground with strength and teeth.
I shape landscapes, leaving no stone unturned,
And in rugged terrain, I’m more than earned.
Am I: |
I am a launchpad to the endless skies,
Carrying dreams where planets rise.
Guided by precision, burning fuel with heat,
I leave behind a trail, but where I go, none can meet.
